Everyone in Kakuma is an artist, they are innovative, creative, makers, builders and problem solvers in their every-day lives. They cook for their families on meagre, basic food rations, build their own houses from mud-clay, fix, mend and create businesses in order to sustain themselves. This artwork celebrates the daily lives of Kakuma’s people. The phrase was coined by Gua Africa’s founder, Emmanuel Jal, who found release and hope in Art and hoped he in turn could provide creative opportunities to keep youth inspired, expressive and heard.
